I just love this post about the culture behind the LOVE Padlocks. The photography and information says it all. Couples, friends and families have been locking the love with custom engraved LOVE padlocks to symbolize their LOVE for some time now. The true history of love locks is unknown. Some believe it originated in China and others say that this practice evolved from a work of the Italian novelist Fredericco Moccia who, in his book Ho voglia di ti, describes how a couple attach a lock to the third lamp post to Rome’s Milvio Bridge. Others believe that it could be a modification of practice by Italian military academy graduates. The young Italians in Florence attach the locks from their military lockers to bridges as a symbol of their newly attained freedom.
